Why Crafts in the Classroom are Necessary
There is so much research that tells us that children learn so much more when they learn through hands-on learning, or play. That’s why I LOVE incorporating as many hands-on crafts as I can into our day to day learning. I’ve found ways to integrate crafts into phonics, writing, grammar, math, and science/social studies! Read below to find out more about my favorite “craftivities'“ for young learners.
Craftivities help students in several areas:
Reviewing skills (math, phonics, etc)
Following step by step directions
Fine motor development
Learning how to properly use glue & scissors
Promotes creativity!
You can find many of my craftivity packs at the links below.
Phonics Crafts Bundle
I use these crafts to assess students’ phonics knowledge after teaching a particular phonics skill. We usually do one of these crafts on Fun Friday during literacy centers. For example, if our phonics focus that week was on “short o” then on Friday, my students would create the short O craftivity that I put out in stations for them. Students complete the craft and show what they know by recording short O words on the pieces of the craftivity.
I have phonics crafts for short vowels, long vowels, digraphs, blends, vowel teams, diphthongs, and r-controlled vowels! Grab them HERE.
Interactive Anchor Charts
Since I mentioned my Phonics Crafts, I should also mention that they pair perfectly with my Interactive Project and Trace (or Print) Anchor Charts! If you’re looking for those, grab them HERE.
Writing Craftivities for the Year
These writing craftivities are my students favorite activities to do during the school year! These craftivities allow them to practice writing, and being creative at the same time. There are enough craftivities in this pack for you to have a new one (or two) each month! Each craftivity comes with different writing prompts for you to choose from as well. Grab the Craftivities for the Year Bundle HERE.
Let me know if you grab any of these craftivity packs, and don’t forget to tag me in your photos on social media so that I can see how cute they turned out!
